Jake Sherry grew up in New Orleans, surrounded by colorful characters and their stories, which seeded his love for narrative. His first jobs featured him as a performer—stilt walking in Mardi Gras parades—but Jake soon came to his senses and abandoned performing for filmmaking. This is when he discovered the fulfilling rush of working with actors and the frenetic joy of a hot set. As a mentor once said perfectly: filmmaking is “the most fun you can have with your clothes on.”
After studying filmmaking at Indiana University and the University of Auckland, New Zealand, Jake settled in New York City where he focuses his narrative energy on directing commercials and branded-content. His Addy-award winning work has taken him across Europe, Asia, and Africa.
Jake’s directing style lets the camera linger, capturing beauty in the small moments and details of every-day-life that often go unnoticed. That aesthetic and his fearlessness navigating both executive conference rooms and film sets have helped him build strong and lasting relationships with his clients and collaborators.
When Jake’s not directing, he’s renovating an ancient Brooklyn townhouse with his wife or feeding their backyard chickens.
